If you were born with a vulva (which is the overall term for your abdomen), there are several ways to masturbate - yes, there are actually quite a few. Probably more than we can list here. If you lack inspiration and ideas for your own solo sex life, we have put together a guide full of masturbation tips .
Stimulation of the clitoris
Many people think it's great to stimulate the clitoris when they masturbate: It can e.g. be by rubbing a finger back and forth over it or using a vibrator that caresses the dune with small, quick vibrations. Thousands of nerve endings meet in the clitoris , which is why it can feel extra intense and titillating when you touch yourself right here.
Stimulation of the vagina
It can also feel good to touch yourself in the vagina with one or more fingers or a dildo. But here there are far from as many nerve endings as there are in the clitoris, and therefore there are also many who find that they cannot achieve orgasm by only stimulating the vagina. On the other hand, this is where you find your g-spot: a sensitive point that sits on the vaginal wall facing the stomach, 2-5 cm up. Not everyone agrees on whether the g-spot exists - some believe it's a myth. But in any case, some people find that they have a point in the vagina that is extra sensitive and nice to stimulate when they have sex or masturbate.
If you need to know what's up and down about it all, we've actually also made a guide to the abdomen that explains everything from where you find the clitoris to where the g-spot is.
Stimulation of the anus
You can also touch your anus when you masturbate - this applies regardless of whether you have a penis or a vulva. Here, too, you have an extra sensitive area, and it can be titillating to be touched here. Some use a butt plug in the anus, while they e.g. stimulates the clitoris or vulva.
Other erogenous zones of the body
There are so-called erogenous zones in several places on your body. These are areas where it is nice to be touched, and where you might be turned on and excited by being, for example, caressed, cuddled or kissed during sex - but you can also touch your erogenous zones yourself while masturbating. Some think, e.g. it's great to nibble on your nipples or caress your breasts in the meantime.
There is no one way to masturbate
As a woman or as a person with a vulva, there are many ways to masturbate - and none of them are more correct than others. It's all about finding out what you like. And you can actually only do that in one way: by masturbating and experimenting.
How often do women masturbate?
A study has shown that almost every third woman (29.5%) masturbates at least once a week. It also showed that we masturbate less with age, but this may just as well be a sign that masturbation is associated with shame in the elderly.
But masturbation is not a one-size-fits-all. Therefore, it is at least as normal to masturbate every day as it is to masturbate only once a week or less often.
